Togetherness Matters

Various groups, cultures, organizations have proven that unity translates into positive results. There’s a saying in sports called” teamwork” and teams that work together win. There is no difference (in working together) towards improving one’s social or economic position in life or working together in a sports team. In marriage when spouses understand what they are collectively trying to achieve and work as one to reach their goals they will be successful. However, couples that do not work together will fail. There are cultures in our society that understand this principle of togetherness. People within these communities, as well as businesses that work together and practice togetherness generally do quite well. We can go on and on about how this simple practice when used is a beautiful thing.

At this time I want to discuss the negative consequences when togetherness is not practiced, especially in the black community. In my opinion (which I came to after many life lessons learned) the primary reason for this lack of togetherness is Trust. Throughout our history, it was instilled in our ancestors to not trust each other. This method of thinking still exists to some extent today. There are those among us that can’t be trusted. However, I believe that these people are few and that there still exists a preponderance of trustworthy people in our midst. So, how can we build this trust level? It has to start with sitting down, having a conversation on what we want, and developing a strategy to obtain these goals. We also so have to understand that we are all unique and have different talents. Collectively as people we must take advantage of the knowledge, skills, and abilities that each person brings to the cause and the conversation. We should also know that it’s not easy and there will be challenges. But by staying focused any obstacles confronted can be overcome.

For us to advance socially, economically, and in our business ventures, we must be willing to come together. We need to start having serious discussions, developing strategies, and executing these strategies. Once this collective “togetherness “is achieved we can become better people, better communities, and create better business opportunities within our communities.

We have earned the right to enjoy the fruits of our labor. By coming together we can create better lives, better opportunities, and a legacy for our children and grandchildren. We can leave something of substance to make their load in life a little easier. “We must come together because it Matters”. Please subscribe to receive our weekly post.
