Throughout history, we have witnessed amazing things happening when people come together for the good of all the people. Many of us may recall when women couldn’t vote when African Americans couldn’t vote, the civil rights movement, and many other occurrences that brought people together and resulted in positive change.
Ben Phillips, an international anti-inequality activist and advisor to the UN, governments, and civil society organizations wrote a book entitled “How to Fight Inequality”. Mr. Phillips wrote in his book that fighting against inequality will not be won by powerful people, philanthropists, or those in leadership roles. It requires people power. Regular People like you and I need to wake up to the inequities that surround us. We need to use our voices, organize, build coalitions, and actively work to bring about positive change.
Just recently in my home state of Georgia after more than two decades the people came together to elect two Democratic senators. Let’s be clear, it’s the responsibility of each of us to care for ourselves and our families. However, we must hold the politicians accountable to do the job that they were elected to do which is to represent the people, not themselves. In President Abraham Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address he indicated that this U.S. government is “of the people, by the people, and for the people”.
On this platform, we have previously written articles that address positive occurrences that happen when people come together. In previously referenced author Ben Phillip’s book he stated” it’s regular people like you and I that can and will bring about change”. In these past presidential and senate elections, the people were able to perfect the changes that were needed. However, the important thing for us to learn from this is that we must continue to work together. We must continue to make our voices heard loud and clear. TO GATHER AS ONE! Give us a thumbs up, a like, a share, and please subscribe. We need and want your continued support.
