In The Beginning Was God’s Word

In The Bible John Chapter One states “in the beginning, was the Word, and the Word was with GOD, and the word was GOD”. I’m a spiritual person and also a believer in a higher power. My personal interpretation of this scripture is that GOD enunciated his word and words matter. Not only in the beginning but every time we give our word it must matter. The most high gave us a road map as it relates to honoring and keeping our word. Have you been told by someone that they would assist you only to find that they did not keep their word? Have you promised your children that you would take them to a movie or amusement park but on the day of the scheduled activity something else came up and you were not able to keep your word?

Consequently, when you did not keep your word your children were extremely disappointed. I must admit that there were times that I personally did not keep my word. There have also been other times when friends or family made unfulfilled promises to me. They went back on their word.
As I’ve grown older I have realized that the only thing that you have is your word. Your word is your bond! Over the years I’ve come to realize that your word is truly a reflection of you. Whether you keep your word or not gives insight into your character. One’s character is revealed not by the promises they make but by the promises they keep. If you give a person your word, no matter how difficult it is for you to carry out that promise (Your Word) you must find a way to get it done. It’s your word and words matter. In the words of the writer Quentin McCall “when your actions contradict your words…….your words don’t mean anything”. Don’t speak hollow words. It’s important to understand that when you give your word it is imperative to follow through. Keep and honor your WORD!
