Wake up everybody, no more sleeping in bed. No more backward thinking time for looking ahead. Though those words are from a song that’s a decade old, those words are still relevant today, even more so. Let us not be onlookers while a certain cadre of people change laws, overlook crimes and take this country in a tragic direction. We are a country of laws and rules. However, it never fails that when the laws work in favor of minorities then certain people want to change the rules to disenfranchise us. By “us” I mean people of color. So, here’s the thing. This is what we must do. We must ensure that everything we need to have to legally vote must be in place months before the next election. Whenever we see politicians do things that are not in the best interest of the people they serve we must call it out. We must encourage our family members to participate in the political process.
Most of all we must stay abreast of what’s happening in this country and be proactive in addressing systemic issues as they arise. Additionally, as people of color, we must always look for opportunities to lift each other up, not tear each other down. Take the opportunity to help or educate our brothers and sisters when you see them going astray. Make a positive difference! Give us a like, a share, a thumbs and subscribe. Peace out…
