For many years people in this country made many sacrifices to obtain the right to vote. These days it seems as though this sacred right is hanging by a thread. Many states have enacted laws that take us five steps backward. We lose ten years for every step backward. People died for the right to vote. Voting means everything. When we elect politicians we do so to have someone represent our rights and things we believe in. Now, the politicians don’t seem to want to fight for the people. They seem to consider their own political goals and aspirations. What we should do is learn about the people representing us, their platform, what they believe in, and if what they believe in will benefit us. We also need to hold our representatives accountable and ensure that they are working to achieve things in our best interest. We should demand nothing less.
This is our country too. Let’s act like it!!! We deserve so much more from our leaders than what we are getting. Treasure our right to vote. Become informed, vote for leaders that will move our country in the right direction. Never give up. Do everything possible to ensure your right to vote is not taken away. Make sure you have everything you need to legally vote. Check to ensure you are still registered and nothing shady is being done to compromise your right to vote. Be proactive. We can win this fight and move ahead instead of backward.
