Black Men Deserve Praise

As I reflect on the upcoming trial of the three white men that were shown on video killing Ahmaud Arbery, a young black man in broad daylight in Brunswick, GA while he was jogging. I think about all the injustices that black men have faced in this country. We know that America is not geared towards making things easier for our precious, black princes and kings.

Black men for many years were subjugated to menial, low-paying jobs despite having the skills and capabilities needed. Then slowly, very slowly, civil rights were addressed, and black men were given the opportunity to walk through the small crack in the door that America left open for them. When they were given the opportunity to walk through that door they had to be twice as smart, work twice as hard, and constantly face prejudging actions.

Then, if they were great at their jobs, intelligent and self-confident they were labeled as “arrogant.” It is amazing that black men have achieved even a minor level of success in this country considering all the barriers placed before them. The judicial system, the education system, the employment system, the economic system are all stacked against the black man. What makes this statement so compelling is the fact that by the time young, black men reach the sixth grade their reading scores are used to determine how many new prisons will be built. Despite all the barriers placed before them our Kings continue to persevere, and undeniably reveal their ebony personas continuing to thrive and press forward.

My brothers, I commend you for your strength and courage. You refuse to allow racism and bigotry in this country to beat you down. Remember only the strongest survived the trip from the Motherland. Strength and resilience are in your DNA. Never forget that. Continue to positively represent us all.
