We all have our views and opinions regarding various issues, and it is no surprise that the Ahmaud Arbery related sentencing elicited different points of view. It was originally stated by the perpetrators that this crime was a citizen’s arrest. The actions of these three men were merely what has occurred for many years in this country without any consequences. They almost got away with this crime with help from a seemingly Corrupt District Attorney. Was it not for the video taken by one of the offenders it is possible that these men would not have been charged for this brutal crime?
As a private investigator who has worked on a number of homicide cases over the years, I feel confident that the sentence these offenders received was just. Additionally, there is a possibility that this case could have been a death penalty case based on facts revealed during the trial. The father and son offenders received life without parole which is the appropriate sentence for each of them. Lastly, the individual that shot the video received a sentence of life with the possibility of parole which fits his involvement in this crime.
I applaud the jurors for doing the right thing. I salute the judge for speaking the truth during the sentencing phase of the trial. I have much respect for the mother of Ahmuad Arbery for her diligence and for not allowing these criminals to go unpunished. The next steps involve the former District Attorney who turned a blind eye when presented with this case and made it go away. She is facing prosecution in this case because despite the very revealing video she failed to take legal action. This pending case is another step in the right direction in what has been a justice system that is not always fair when people of color are involved. Stay tuned. Let us see what happens.
