Mark Pomerantz is a former Manhattan Assistant District Attorney who was assigned to investigate and prosecute former president Donald Trump. Mr. Pomerantz, according to an article published in the New York Times dated March 30, 2022, resigned because Alvin Bragg, the new Manhattan District Attorney advised to halt the Trump criminal investigation.
The Times article provides information about Mr. Pomerantz’s background and qualifications as a prosecutor. He served at the storied U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York in both its’ Appellate and Criminal Division. He successfully prosecuted mob boss, John Gotti. Mr. Pomerantz also spent time in private practice representing white-collar defendants and is widely regarded as an expert in financial crimes. In short, his legal background is impressive.
In Mr. Pomerantz’s resignation letter he stated that Donald Trump needs to stand trial for his many offenses. However, because he disagreed with Alvin Bragg, the Manhattan Prosecutor who made the decision not to proceed with bringing criminal charges against Mr. Trump he was left with no choice but to resign. Mr. Pomerantz believed that Trump was guilty of multiple felony violations, and it is a grave failure of justice to not hold him accountable. As a prosecutor, Mr. Pomerantz stated that he took an oath to uphold the law. Consequently, he decided to leave the Manhattan Attorney General’s Office.
We should all applaud Mr. Pomerantz. His work over the years tells us he knows and understands white-collar crime. Mr. Pomerantz thoroughly understands Donald Trump’s indiscretions in his business practices. Mr. Pomerantz, along with former Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance agreed that the case should be pursued. It is refreshing to know there are still individuals that are determined, committed, and will stand on principle no matter what.
