What is happening now in our society should be concerning to all of us but what is more alarming is that people stand by and watch crimes happen and say and do nothing. On Monday, April 18, 2022, in Atlanta, GA a person was gunned down while others watched. After the individual was gunned down two dissolute individuals began robbing the deceased person by searching through his pockets. A few days earlier two young males attacked a woman after she exited a Walmart store. According to the victim, one of the perpetrators began choking her while the other one searched through her purse and car. This assault happened in the middle of the day while people stood by, watched, and did nothing to try and stop this crime.
This total disregard that people have for their neighbors and others being victimized without bothering to call the police is very troubling. However, those that just watch I am sure would want someone to assist them were the situation reversed. I have said it before, and I am saying it again. If you see something, say something. Reporting crime is one of the ways that we all can help stop many of these unprovoked attacks on law-abiding citizens.
Criminals rule by fear and we cannot allow this element to continue their assault on our neighborhoods, community, and society. Additionally, we have to stop using the phrase “I’m not a snitch” to allow these crimes to continue to be perpetrated. It takes courage to do the right thing. We must do the right thing when we witness people being victimized. Help stop this criminal behavior.
