Crime vs. Poverty

Poverty is defined as the lack of resources needed to provide the necessities of life. When an individual cannot afford the necessities of life (food, clothing, shelter) in some instances criminal acts follow. These individuals turn to a life of crime as a means of survival. Many criticize these acts. However, were you in this person’s place what would you do?

While recently speaking with a former District Attorney we discussed the rise in crime across America. This Prosecutor conducted a study related to crime and the results of the study revealed the link between poverty and criminal behavior. We further spoke of statistics that indicated the huge disparity in earnings between Blacks and Whites. While conversing with the former prosecutor his most glaring comment was his inference as to what politicians were not doing. He indicated that politicians are not addressing the real issues and choose to use words such as repeat offenders, thugs, and other such terms to gain political points rather than focusing on creating jobs, affordable housing, and other resources that allow people to rise above the poverty level.

Crime is not good and VMG does not condone such behavior. The point so adamantly made was that politicians do know how to deal with crime in America. Instead, they choose to use crime to manipulate voters. One straightforward way to address the crime issue is to create JOBS. Give us a thumbs up, a like, and a share.
