The Metamorphosis

Metamorphosis is defined as “a change of the form or nature of a thing or person into a
completely different one”. Growing up during my formative years I lacked confidence, then
along came someone who helped me build my self-worth. My relationship with this individual
began in a somewhat awkward manner. This person was incarcerated at the time and because
I’d heard a lot about him my curiosity led me to take a trip to see him.
After the visit, which left me intrigued, I continued to write and wanted to find out more about
this person that some considered to be a “menace to society”. During that period of time, those
that considered him to be a menace were probably correct in their suspicions. However, the time
has a way of bringing about change.
After serving his time and being released we maintained communication. During our
interactions, I learned many interesting things about my friend. He was an avid reader of
positive books by authors such as Og Mandino (The Greatest Salesman in the World), Norman
Vincent Peale (Think and Grow Rich) and many other great writers. During one of our many
conversations, he shared much very useful knowledge with me which increased my confidence
level exponentially.
Fast forward from back in the day to August 2022. I received a call from my friend who was in
Atlanta at the time and asked if we could meet. He is now an ordained minister; he operates a
homeless shelter and a shelter for single mothers. God took someone considered to be nothing
and turned him into something. He went from prison to the pulpit.
This is not the end of the story. He initially contacted me to assist in finding a daughter that he
did not have a relationship with. During his early years, he’d done many things he was not proud
of. One of those things was not having a relationship with his daughter. Once contacted she
was open to building a relationship with her dad. Life experiences, good or bad can change
people for the better. Thanks to the sage advice from my friend, I became a better person. His
generous sharing of infinite knowledge made a big difference in my life. The metamorphosis!!
