Choices
There has been much talk and controversy recently regarding choices here in America. Polls show that the majority of Americans are in favor of gun legislation. Polls also show that the majority of Americans agree that women should choose what it is that they want to do with their bodies. People want to be able to choose their gender, their partner, their choice of books, their representatives, and so forth and so on. Why is it that politicians and people, in general, feel the need to dictate what others do with their lives? The only life anyone can make choices in should be their own life. Racism, sexism, xenophobia, and misogyny cause others to make decisions or choose to discriminate based on their perceptions that oftentimes has a negative effect on the lives of these individuals perceived as less than.
First of all, no one person has power over the lives of anyone else. Why should it matter what another person does if it does not directly affect you? If people spend their time working on bettering themselves, they will have no time to interfere in the lives of others. I don’t care about the car someone drives, where they live, how much money they make, their political affiliations, how they look, what race they are, what their sexual preferences are, what their gender is, what their religion is, or anything that does not involve me or my immediate circle. I am in no position to judge anyone else as “he who is without sin should cast the first stone.” Is one sin more or less than another sin? Judging is like saying come on, just throw that stone at me. Spend more time taking note of things you can improve upon yourself. Nothing anyone else does except for politicians making bad decisions that affect our lives or livelihood are things that you should be concerned about. Live and let live. Mind your business. Get a life! Make choices for yourself, not others.
