Social Consciousness

Social Consciousness

Being socially aware has two distinct differences in the behavior of people, positive or negative! So what is Social consciousness

Social consciousness refers to an individual’s awareness and understanding of social issues, injustices, and inequalities that affect various groups within their community and society. This is a modified or short definition of social awareness. Social awareness is very broad; however, let’s view examples of how awareness affects people in different ways.

Very large brands (clothing, shoes, etc.) solicit celebrities, athletes as well and other well-known figures to market their brands, I’m sure we all heard I want to be like Mike, an ad campaign used by a major tennis shoe brand. Using this athlete’s name and likeness propelled this brand into the number one position in the tennis shoe space. This awareness was very positive!

Now let’s look at how consciousness can be negative. It’s very troubling to see how people trash a community. I was taught as a child that have to care about where you live. Throwing trash out of moving cars should not happen but it does. Unkept communities lose property value, businesses refuse to open in such unkept areas, and crime is more likely to occur.

As stated earlier in this narrative, I was taught to care about where I live. I care about my neighbors and their property value, and as a result, it has been an ongoing effort on my part to keep my subdivision clean, I pick up trash anytime that I see any in my community. I don’t want my friends or my neighbor’s guests to see trash upon arriving in our community.

I ask that we all become more socially aware, and influencers because people do pay attention to the things that we say or do.
