Our Community Needs Healing

Our Community Needs Healing

During a most recent weekend here in Atlanta there was a brawl at Six Flags that involved many youths of color behaving outrageously. The brawl escalated to the point where shots were fired. In turn, it was alleged that a fifteen-year-old fired at police. When police fired back the young man was critically injured. My question is: why would a fifteen-year-old have a firearm? My next question is “Where were the parents.” Whatever happened to talking to your children, always knowing their whereabouts, and having them check in periodically to ensure their safety? Our community has fallen into a deep abyss. What happened to it takes a village? What happened to everyone in the community looking after the children? Parents keep watch over their children. They are a precious commodity. Teach them the power of being a leader and not a follower. Teach them respect, a good work ethic, and the power of paying it forward. Let us pray for healing for our community. Our children are in trouble and falling prey to the hold of negative social media, scandalous rap lyrics, and televised outrageous, reality show antics. All of the aforementioned send subliminal messages condoning bad behavior. Keep watch over them. Let’s not self-inflict our community of young people into extinction. It is now a matter of life and death.
