Time should be Treasured..

Time is one of the most valuable resources we have, yet it often slips through our fingers without much thought. With only 24 hours in a day, how we spend those hours can define the quality and trajectory of our lives.

On average, most people work eight hours a day, which is one-third of the daily allotment. Add to that the typical two-and-a-half-hour commute, and the day already feels shorter. Sleep, which is essential for health and well-being, takes another five to eight hours. Preparing for work or handling life’s smaller, necessary tasks—getting dressed, eating, or even decompressing—consumes even more time. By the end of the day, little remains for personal pursuits, family, or self-improvement.

If we zoom out and look at the week as a whole, the math becomes even more revealing. Out of the 168 hours in a week, 40 are spent working, leaving 128 hours. Deducting sleep at an average of 6.5 hours a night (45.5 hours a week), we’re left with 82.5 hours. Commutes eat up another 12.5 hours weekly, and suddenly, what seemed like a generous bank of time feels alarmingly narrow.

What we do with those remaining hours is crucial. Time, unlike money, cannot be earned back once spent. Wasting time on distractions or procrastination is like pouring water into a sieve; it’s gone before you even realize it. However, making deliberate choices with your time—prioritizing relationships, pursuing education, investing in health, or nurturing creativity—yields a return that compounds over a lifetime.

Time management is less about squeezing productivity from every moment and more about aligning your hours with your values. Think about what matters most to you and ensure that your daily decisions reflect those priorities. Even small changes, like reducing screen time or multitasking less, can free up minutes that add up to meaningful hours.

By recognizing how little free time we truly have, we can approach each day with intention. Time is fleeting, but when used wisely, its impact lasts forever. Let’s not waste our time….. VMG purpose is to inspire, encourage, inform, and empower others.
