My Village

There’s a saying that “it takes a village to raise a child,” but for me, that village didn’t just raise me—it shaped every facet of who I am today. My journey is one of gratitude, reflecting on the people who played pivotal roles in my life, nurturing my values, ambitions, and passions.

It all begins with my mother, the cornerstone of our family. She made immense sacrifices to instill strong values in her ten children, whom she cherished deeply. Despite the challenges, she led with love, strength, and unwavering determination, setting the foundation for all of us.

My older brother, a steadfast figure in our lives, has always been more than just a sibling; he’s been a father figure. To this day, we lean on his wisdom and seek his guidance. His presence is a reminder of the strength and unity that binds us as a family.

Then there’s my wife, my rock and partner in every sense of the word. Her belief in me and her willingness to let me pursue my passion for investigation has been a gift I’ll always treasure. She stands by me in every endeavor, offering unwavering support and love.

Gerry Carty, a dear friend and mentor, entered my life in the early 1980s and has been a guiding force ever since. His influence helped me develop not only the skills necessary for my career but also the confidence to pursue my goals. Gerry’s mentorship has left an indelible mark on my life.

Horace Walker, a person I admired from afar for years, became an integral part of my journey when the opportunity came for us to unite. His encouragement and support helped me continue to grow and refine my path.

Finally, my children—Angela and Rodney—my grandkids, great-grandkids, and countless others in my extended circle remind me daily of how fortunate I am. Their love and the lessons they teach me in return are priceless.

Looking back, I’m overwhelmed with gratitude for this incredible village. Each person, in their unique way, contributed to my development, shaping me into the person I am today. Their impact will forever be etched in my heart. VMG purpose is to inspire, inform, encourage, and empower others.
