Why I Became a Private Investigator!!

My career as a private investigator wasn’t what I had envisioned. Instead, my goal was to become a corporate employee. Growing up during the 60s and 70s in an impoverished community shaped my career in defense investigation. I witnessed firsthand the unfair treatment of people of color by law enforcement. My brother, Jerome, and I were victims of these injustices by officers who abused their authority.

Jerome and I sold newspapers and, like each morning, we set out early to deliver them in the downtown area. But this particular morning was different. Two officers approached us. One officer stated that the only people out during the early morning hours were the police and burglars—and we were not police. Although we explained to the officers our reason for being out so early, it didn’t seem to matter. Subconsciously, that experience remained with me for years. Witnessing how other people in our community were mistreated further deepened my awareness of these systemic issues.

While working at a very prestigious restaurant, I met the person who became my mentor. Gerry Carty was a young, aspiring attorney who prepared me for my career in criminal investigation. Those early developing years were transformative. Witnessing people who truly had not committed a crime but were facing incarceration inspired me to dedicate myself to helping the wrongly accused.

My journey into private investigation has been fueled by a deep sense of justice and a desire to make a difference in the lives of those who are marginalized or mistreated. It’s not the path I imagined, but it’s one that has given me purpose and a meaningful way to contribute to society.
