Equal Playing Field: Unjust System

For the past 39 years, I have dedicated my life and career to helping defend those charged with criminal offenses. I want to be clear about my position regarding the work that I do: crime is wrong, and I do not condone unlawful behavior. I chose this profession because the justice system has never truly balanced the scales—it has consistently tilted negatively for people of color.

Let’s examine the reasons behind theft, robberies, and other related crimes—excluding murder from this narrative. The root cause often comes down to money. Financial struggles drive people to commit thefts, burglaries, and similar offenses. If the system genuinely cared about people, it would at least offer a fair chance to everyone. Those in power have no real understanding of what it means to go without, while for most average people, even paying the rent is a constant struggle.

One way to address these issues is by teaching people how to develop businesses. Providing the knowledge and resources needed to start and grow businesses can create opportunities, reduce financial stress, and give people a path to self-sufficiency. Economic empowerment through business development can help break the cycle of poverty and reduce the temptation to commit crimes out of desperation.
