Acronym for Poor?

Each morning at 10 a.m., I listen to a podcast hosted by Dr. Boyce Watkins. Dr. Watkins holds a Ph.D. in finance and has taught at Ohio State, the University of Kentucky, and Syracuse University. I trust, respect, and often implement some of the investment advice he shares during his broadcasts.

During a recent episode, Dr. Watkins said something that really stuck with me: “POOR is an acronym for Passing Over Opportunities Repeatedly.” That statement hit home. After reflecting on it, I thought about a few opportunities I had passed up over the years.

One that stands out was a chance to acquire rental property. Instead of moving forward, I listened to people who didn’t own any property themselves. That decision cost me what could have been a great investment and a step toward financial independence.

I’m sure I’m not alone. Many of us have missed opportunities simply because we didn’t recognize them—or we let fear, doubt, or bad advice get in the way.

The key is to learn how to recognize opportunities when they appear. That means evaluating who’s presenting the information, doing your own research, and asking yourself if what you’re hearing makes sense.

And just as important—each one should teach one. When we gain knowledge, we should share it. Whether it’s a family member, friend, or coworker, we can help others avoid the mistakes we made and recognize opportunities that could change their lives.

Opportunity grows stronger when it’s passed on.
