It’s time to get serious about our future. Yesterday’s post was a call to action, and I’m not surprised by the lack of response — tough conversations often make people uncomfortable. But let me be crystal clear: I don’t have all the answers to solve the problems destroying our communities. What I do know is this — if we, as Black people, do not come together as one, our great-grandchildren’s future will be in serious trouble.
Yes, some of us have reached a level of success and may believe it’s up to each individual to take care of themselves. But it’s not that simple. Until we build communities that support and uplift the masses, individual accomplishments mean very little. If we measure success by how well we “fit in” with systems that were not designed for us, we will always be forced to kiss the ring of the master.
History is full of examples of Black success that was systematically taken away. Black Wall Street in Tulsa, Oklahoma, was one of the wealthiest Black communities in America — thriving businesses, doctors, lawyers, and entrepreneurs. In 1921, it was burned to the ground, and hundreds of lives were lost. Rosewood, Florida, was another Black town wiped off the map. Even in modern times, we’ve seen Black homeowners targeted by predatory lending and their property values undercut, erasing generational wealth. These are not just distant stories — they are warnings of what happens when we don’t protect what we build.
But here’s the good news: once we have unity and build financial power, we also gain something far more valuable — a voice. A voice that cannot be ignored. A voice that allows us to set the agenda, demand fairness, and create opportunities for generations to come. Money, when used strategically, turns into influence — and influence allows us to protect what we’ve built and decide our own future.
This is bigger than individual success — this is about collective survival. It’s time to stop waiting for someone else to fix what’s broken. We must invest in ourselves, support our businesses, educate our children, and create opportunities that cannot be taken away.
We are stronger together. When we unite, no force can silence us. Our future is not something we wait for — it’s something we build. Let’s get serious. Let’s get organized. And let’s get to work, so that generations from now, our children and grandchildren can look back and thank us for giving them a future worth fighting for.
