Most people think of time, saving, and investing as three separate things, but in reality, they are closely connected. I learned this lesson the hard way. Between the ages of 17 and 24, I wasn’t saving or investing. I was living day to day, thinking there would always be time to figure it out later. But life has a way of testing us, and when unexpected challenges came, I realized I didn’t have the safety net I needed.
Time is the one thing we can never get back. Every day gives us 24 hours, but how we use those hours decides our future. I learned that if I wanted to build a better life, I had to invest some of my time in learning about money, creating a plan, and making better choices. Time spent planning is never wasted — it’s what keeps you prepared when life throws you a curveball.
Saving was my first step toward freedom. It didn’t matter how much I made — what mattered was how much I kept. I started by setting aside a small amount every week, no matter what. Over time, this became a habit, and my savings became a cushion that gave me peace of mind. It meant I didn’t have to panic every time something unexpected happened.
But I also learned that saving alone wasn’t enough. If money just sits in a savings account, it slowly loses value because of inflation. That’s where investing comes in. Once I started investing, I saw how powerful it could be. Even small amounts grew over time. The earlier you start, the more time your money has to compound and multiply, turning those small sacrifices into real opportunities down the road.
The truth is, most of us don’t fail because we don’t make enough money. We fail because we don’t plan how to use our time, our savings, and our investments. I’ve been on both sides — the side where I wasted time and had no plan, and the side where I used time wisely and built something for the future. Trust me, the second side feels a lot better. Time, saving, and investing work together, and when you use them well, they can completely change your future.
