The world is changing fast, and technology is leading the way. Artificial Intelligence (AI) is no longer a distant idea — it is here, shaping industries, creating new jobs, and transforming the way we live and work. For our kids, learning AI isn’t just about playing with robots or writing code. It’s about preparing for the future and making sure they have a seat at the table when opportunities are being handed out.
When we look back at history, there were moments when people were denied education and opportunities. The 13th, 14th, and 15th Amendments were designed to give freedom, equality, and a voice to those who had been shut out. Today, we face a different kind of challenge — not legal, but technological. If our children don’t gain the skills to understand and use AI, they could find themselves locked out of the best-paying jobs and business opportunities of tomorrow.
AI is already everywhere: it’s in banking, healthcare, transportation, entertainment, and even the justice system. Companies are looking for workers who know how to work with data, design smart systems, and solve problems using technology. Kids who learn these skills early will have an advantage, while those who don’t risk being left behind economically — working jobs that pay less or disappear entirely.
As parents, mentors, and community leaders, we must act now. Schools should teach AI basics just like they teach math and reading. Community centers and churches can host coding clubs or weekend workshops. Even at home, we can introduce kids to free online tools that teach programming and AI in simple, fun ways.
The future will belong to those who are prepared. Just as previous generations fought for education and civil rights, we must fight to make sure every child — no matter where they come from — has access to technology education. We can’t let another generation be left behind.
