Safety Tip of the Day
Presented by Verifacts Investigations & Frontline Investigator Training Academy
During my years investigating criminal cases and interviewing defendants, I often asked one simple question:
“How did you choose which homes to break into?”
Two answers came up repeatedly.
Many burglars said they would drive through neighborhoods looking for expensive vehicles in driveways, assuming those homes likely had valuables inside.
Others said they looked for exterior lights that remained on during the daytime. To them, it suggested the homeowner had already left for work while it was still dark.
These may seem like small details—but criminals notice patterns most people overlook.
Practical ways to reduce risk:
• Park high-value vehicles in garages when possible
• Use timers or smart controls for exterior lighting
• Occasionally check your home’s exterior during daylight hours
Awareness is often the first line of defense.
