I am no authority on foreign policy, but I do have an opinion—and right now, that opinion is rooted in concern.
This current war with Iran feels unnecessary. Innocent people are losing their lives, not because they chose conflict, but because of decisions made by those in power who want to flex their muscles on the world stage. War always comes with a cost, but too often, it’s not the decision-makers who pay the price—it’s everyday people, families, and communities.
According to reports, the United States is spending nearly a billion dollars a day on this war. Now, there are discussions about approving an additional $200 billion. That number is hard to even comprehend. While billions are being poured into conflict overseas, millions of Americans are struggling right here at home.
We have people sleeping on the streets. Families are choosing between paying rent or buying groceries. Seniors are trying to survive on fixed incomes while the cost of healthcare and prescriptions continues to rise. Yet somehow, these issues never seem to get the same urgency or funding.
It raises a serious question—what truly matters to our leadership?
The American people need to understand how often our political leaders make decisions without truly reflecting the needs of the citizens they represent. Money is found quickly when it’s for war, defense, or global influence. But when it comes to homelessness, hunger, education, or economic stability, progress is slow, and solutions are always “complicated.”
At some point, we have to ask ourselves—are we being represented, or are we being overlooked?
This is not about politics. It’s about priorities. It’s about accountability.
It’s time that we, as citizens, begin to demand more. Demand transparency. Demand responsible spending. Demand that the same urgency shown in funding war be applied to solving the crises happening in our own neighborhoods.
Because if we don’t speak up, nothing changes.
And if nothing changes, the cost won’t just be measured in dollars—it will be measured in lives, both abroad and here at home.
