Change Is Hard

At the start of each new-year most of us make resolutions to change things in our life. Some of the resolutions we make may be financial, weight loss, or other changes. In making changes it is important to take note of bad habits that we practice daily. Most people do not read one book per year. It’s been said that reading a subject matter for two hours a day can lead to eventually becoming an expert in that field. I can’t say what most of you do with your time. What I do know is that what a person does with their time determines who they are. So let’s dive a little deeper. I grew up with guys that spent their time hanging out on the corner. I admit that I also yielded to this bad habit. I eventually came to realize that this type of behavior was unproductive. I sometimes get caught up in nostalgia and drive through the old neighborhood. When I do this drive-through I find that a lot of these guys are still hanging out on the corner and not much else has changed for them.
Let’s examine those of us that work. Speaking from personal experience I have observed that working in the restaurant industry can provide a very nice income. However, the negative side of this industry that I’ve noticed is that there’s a preponderance of individuals in this field of work that develop bad habits. i.e., drinking and drugs. Now don’t get me wrong this is by no means an indictment of all in the industry. There are a great number of people in the restaurant industry that have good habits i.e., excellent customer service, positivity, good listening skills, and competence in what they do. I’d just like to make the point that adopting good habits rather than bad habits can enrich your life. Consequently, learning discipline and strategies to accomplish your goals can make for positive life experiences.
Then there are those of us that do our 8-10 hours per day and upon arriving home watch television, chat on the phone for hours or engage in social media. Socialization is fine when used properly. Changing bad habits is hard but for those that commit to changing bad habits, the results can be very rewarding. If we continue doing unproductive things over and over again we get the same results. People feel better about themselves when they change bad habits into good habits and start reaching their objectives. I’m one of those people who changed bad habits. For the year 2021 let us all commit to changing whatever bad habits we have into good habits. Maybe we can commit to reading more because the information is powerful, attending a city council meeting, a seminar on a subject of interest, or becoming a volunteer for a cause that we feel passionate about. I know that changing works.
At one time in my life, I had little confidence, didn’t think that I was worthy and that success wasn’t possible. It should be noted that success is measured on various levels and I’m in a much better space since changing my bad habits. I say to each of you that change is necessary. To make a positive change in one’s current position in this space called life will make things better. It’s my wish that we all develop good habits so that we can achieve those things that truly matter to us. Let’s make 2021 the year of change, we deserve it. Give us a thumbs-up, a like, a share, and subscribe.
