Since the pandemic began, we have been told there is a shortage of goods and services. We continue to hear that people do not want to work for assorted reasons and staples (groceries, toys, appliances, and other items) are in short supply due to supply chain issues.
Over the last few days, I have spoken with numerous people and a friend with a college-aged son that have indicated they have applied for jobs and have not heard back or were denied employment due to lack of shift availability. I have tested the job market by applying for various jobs and have not received a callback.
Additionally, driving in metro Atlanta is horrible due to traffic on the interstate as well as the surface streets. We keep hearing that there is a shortage of truck drivers but if you drive in the metro all you see day and night are eighteen-wheelers taking up a major portion of all roads to and from the city. Yet they tell us there is a truck driver shortage.
What is the truth about jobs and the supply chain? Granted there are probably some people that do not want to work.
However, there are more people that want to work but it seems that businesses do not appear to be hiring. I recently spoke with an over-the-road trucker that adamantly stated there is no shortage of drivers. He indicated that big companies are blaming drivers for unfortunate situations regarding the supply chain. What is the real truth? Stay tuned. Please give us a thumbs up, a like, and a share.
