Secure Your Holiday

We’re in the holiday season, time with family and friends here
and away. We’re shopping and traveling getting ready for Christmas and New Year’s. Well sadly so are the criminals, so we need to do a few things to protect ourselves.

Traveling

If you’re traveling for the Holiday’s use light timers inside your
home. Have family or neighbors you trust to pick up your mail and newspapers. In a lot of counties, you can request your local Police Dept. conduct a house check while you’re gone. DO NOT post on social media that you’re going out of town.

Shopping for the Holiday’s

If at ALL possible, go shopping with two or more people (adults)
there is safety in numbers. Try to do your shopping during daylight hours, if going to a mall try to avoid parking in parking decks. If shopping at the mall tries to do all your shopping at once, don’t put items in your vehicle and return to the mall!! Remember when you’re out shopping so are the criminals. Ladies, PLEASE carry a purse with an over-the-shoulder strap, DON’T leave your purse in a shopping cart. If shopping alone at a mall, see if the mall offers escorts to your
car. After you’re done shopping go directly home and secure what you have purchased. For any big ticketed items, TV’s, computers, stereos or delivery items to your home. DON’T place to empty boxes until the day of trash pick-up, remember the criminal element is
out shopping too. The empty boxes you throw away tell the criminal what you have. Just a few thoughts to keep you safe for the Holidays.
