This Election Could Decide Everything: Don’t Sit It Out…..

This upcoming midterm election is one of the most important in recent history. For years, the right has made repeated attempts to deny people of color the right to vote, changing the rules year after year to make it harder for us to have a voice. In states like Texas, there are massive efforts to redraw districts in ways that will favor one side and silence entire communities. If Texas gets away with this plan to redistrict, you can be sure other states will follow, creating a ripple effect across the country that could silence millions of voices for years to come.

These efforts are not new — they just keep evolving. We’ve seen polling places shut down in majority-Black and Latino neighborhoods, forcing people to travel farther and wait in longer lines just to cast a ballot. Strict voter ID laws have been put in place, even when lawmakers know that many working-class citizens don’t have access to the required forms of identification. We’ve seen voter rolls purged without proper notice, leaving people to discover on Election Day that they are no longer registered. Each of these tactics has the same goal: to keep turnout low and maintain power.

We cannot sit back and watch this happen. It is our responsibility to get involved and fight back — not with anger, but with action. That action starts with registering to vote and making sure our families, neighbors, church members, co-workers, and friends are registered too. We must check our registration regularly, because rules and requirements change all the time.

Local elections matter just as much as state and federal ones. The people we elect to school boards, city councils, state legislatures, and Congress make decisions that directly affect our lives — from education and healthcare to jobs and criminal justice. When we stay home, we give our power away.

We need to elect leaders who put citizens’ interests first — not politicians who will simply say “yes” to whatever Donald or anyone else demands. Our votes must go to candidates who will protect democracy, strengthen our communities, and fight for policies that benefit everyday people.

This madness will only stop when we stand together and use the most powerful tool we have — our vote. Organize with your neighbors. Offer rides to the polls. Encourage early voting when possible.

The stakes are too high to sit this one out. Democracy works best when we all participate — and this election, we must show up.
