The Cost of Looking Away!

There comes a point where silence becomes a decision.

Every day, decisions are being made across all branches of the federal government—laws, rulings, and policies that directly affect how we live, work, and provide for our families. Yet many citizens continue to move through life as if none of it matters.

Why?

Some people are simply tired. They’re working long hours, dealing with rising costs, and trying to keep their households together. Paying attention to government actions feels like one more weight they don’t have the energy to carry.

Others are confused. The information is constant, but it often conflicts. One side says one thing, another says the opposite. After a while, people stop trying to figure out what’s true.

And then there’s comfort. It’s easier to believe someone else is paying attention. Easier to assume the system will correct itself.

But it doesn’t work that way.

When citizens stop paying attention, power moves without resistance. When people stop asking questions, decisions go unchecked. And when accountability fades, the consequences don’t stay in Washington—they show up in our neighborhoods, our schools, and our daily lives.

This isn’t about political parties. It’s about responsibility.

Our system was built with checks and balances for a reason. But those checks only work when the public is engaged. When citizens stay informed. When they question decisions. When they vote—not just during presidential elections, but in local and midterm elections where many critical decisions are made.

Ignoring what’s happening doesn’t protect us. It leaves us exposed.

The rising cost of living, changes in laws, and shifts in policy are not accidents. They are the results of decisions made by elected officials. And those officials are chosen by the people.

So the question isn’t just what the government is doing.

The question is: what are we doing as citizens?

Are we paying attention?
Are we asking questions?
Are we holding leaders accountable?

Because in the end, a government will only be as accountable as its citizens demand it to be.

Looking away may feel easier today.
But over time, it becomes a cost we all pay.
